Clash In the Carolinas

Combinations, right hooks and body blows and determinations to beat the count will only bring the power a fighter need take on an opponent and face off as professional boxing comes to The Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

Platinum Boxing Promotions, LLC rolls out the red carpet as they make plans to bring professional title fights with well known local names to the City of
Columbia. Platinum Boxing Promotions will present “The Clash In The Carolinas” Saturday, August 8th, 2009 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center located in the Vista at 1101 Lincoln Street, Columbia, South Carolina. The evening’s undercard will feature Korean superstar Jae-Sung Lee and Columbia’s own Corey Goodwin making his professional debut and more including a female bout with Lisa Bolin of Sharon, SC.

“My goal is to shine a bright light on professional boxing in the southeastern region and deliver professional boxing events that will provide an opportunity for boxers to get their names out there in boxing industry. The city has always been known for other sporting events however professional boxing has always been a struggle to maintain here. I shouldn’t have to travel to
Las Vegas to see a good professional fight when we’ve got good fighters right here in the palmetto state,” said Platinum Boxing Promotions promoter DM “Lex” Alexis.

First Sun, USC Theater Students to Showcase Benefits of EAPs in Live Performance

Columbia, S.C. – First Sun EAP, which provides employee assistance programs (EAPs) to more than 300 companies in South Carolina, and the University of South Carolina Theater Department will present a live performance Aug. 4 to demonstrate how an EAP can help employers and their workers in times of crisis.

The target audience will be human resources professionals, managers, and insurance agents and brokers. Members of the news media are invited to photograph the performance and/or interview organizers. Media members covering the event should see Maria Lund, president and COO of First Sun EAP, at the convention center.

WHO: First Sun EAP and the University of South Carolina Theater Department.

WHAT: Students from USC’s Theater Department will perform skits, and First Sun EAP officials will provide information to demonstrate how an EAP can benefit workers during tough economic times and other periods of crisis. Participants will learn how to help a person in crisis, how to assist in averting a crisis, how a company can partner with an EAP to have a positive impact on the workplace, and more.

WHERE: Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

WHEN: Tuesday, August 4, from 9 until 11 a.m.

WHY: During an economic downturn, workers increasingly report stress-related symptoms as many worry about job security, financial obligations, their health and more. EAPs are designed to help a company’s workers manage stressful situations, both at work and in their personal lives. A successful EAP can help companies reduce turnover and employee absenteeism, as well as boost productivity and morale.

EAPs provide assessments, confidential counseling and referrals to help employees manage stress stemming from work issues, health problems, substance abuse, loss of a loved one, legal matters, financial planning, finding child care, and many other sources.
